Point your iPhone at a disc-golf basket, a disc, a tree, or any other target you can see, and Cliptracer Range tells you the distance, elevation change, and grade. No walking there, no extra hardware.

How it works

Parallax triangulation: the same principle as your two eyes judging depth, or a surveyor sighting a point from two spots.

Sight the target

Aim the crosshair at the target and tap Add Sighting. You fine-tune the aim on a frozen frame, so placement is pixel-precise.

Move, sight again

Take about 10 steps to the side, or walk toward the target, and add another sighting of the same spot. Either way works; each sighting is a line of sight from where you stand, and the more you move, the tighter the result.

Read the result

Where the lines cross in 3D is your target: distance, elevation, and grade appear instantly, with the converging sight-lines drawn in AR. Add more sightings to shrink the error, shown live as a ±.

Why it's accurate

Simple, robust geometry

Your iPhone precisely tracks how far you move between observation spots, and the measurement comes straight from that baseline and your aim. Nothing to calibrate, nothing to guess.

The more you move between sightings, whether a wider step or walking toward the target, the tighter the result. It stays precise at the shorter distances where a GPS reading tends to be loose.

Two ways to measure, both accurate. Step to the side and sight twice for a quick reading, or set your spot and walk it in. The walk-in gives a result that's just as tight, often tighter, with no sideways angle to line up.

Why not just GPS, or a laser rangefinder?

  • No walking to the target. A GPS measurement means walking the full distance to drop a pin. Here you measure long distances from where you stand.
